Finally been announced for 2024..Big signing for the club

Yes I know…I meant Luke Thompson

I Like Luke….should have a GREAT pick next season…more muscle

It looks like there are going to be some surprises on the the not-retained list, in the forwards with all the new signings and promotions from the Academy to meet the constrains of the salary cap.

With the addition of Thompson, there will also be Byrne, Chan, Cooper, Dupree, Ellis, Havard, Hill, Mago, Makin, Silva competing for the Prop Forwad positions, Forber, Leeming, O'Neil, Powell, for the Hooker role with Farrell, Isa, N'Samba, Smithies, Walters competing for the Back Row positions.

The reserves should have a cracking team

I would have inagine that the regular reserve players like Bushell, Fitzgerald, Hobson, Jones, Mitchell, Sumner and Tyrer who had played in the league games that got Wigan to the Reserve Grand Final were not very happy about being left out of the final squad and denied the chance of winning a medal to make way for players who had been either in the first team squad or out on loan at other clubs for parts of the season.

No wonder we won 24-0 when Saints fielded their usual Reseve team with Hurrell and a couple of senior fringe players to strenght it.

And I would imagine,them being professional players,it would be club first.
They will get medals anyway as they are part of the squad.
It’s a pity a few more High profile clubs,like Leigh,don’t run reserve teams!

All Super League clubs should be running Reserve and Academy teams!

And in regard to to the recent Reserve Grand Final, they may get a medal, but it is not like playing in a final when you have been one of the players who has play all season in a team and then on reaching the final find you have to make way for regular first team squad players like Cust, Hampshire, N'Samba at Wigan and Hurrell at St Helens.

The reserves are there to support the first team,that is their function!Weather it be bringing younger players through,or giving game time to fringe players,or players coming back from injury, whatever. The fact that this game was a final matters not in the bigger picture,and you know it!

He's missed a lot of games last season. Lets hope he's not another George Burgess.
